Question: I have had reconstruction after being diagnosed with breast cancer and having a double mastectomy. I have implants but did not finish with my reconstruction and one side looks deformed. Was wondering if the implants could be taken out and reconstruction with natural procedures?
Answer:
Good morning and thanks for reaching out to us.
Assuming you have adequate donor tissue (most people do), there is a very good chance that we could remove your implants and re-do your reconstruction only with your own natural tissue. We have done this many, many hundreds of times, and it usually works out very well.
If you would like to investigate further, we can have one of our Physician Assistants call to gather a little more information from you, and then we can set up a telemedicine virtual visit to discuss your situation in more detail.
I look forward to your reply.
Regards,
Richard M. Kline Jr., M.D.
