Meet Our Team
Our team at The Center for Natural Breast Reconstruction comprises highly trained and experienced professionals who are passionate about helping women feel whole again after breast cancer. James Craigie, M.D.
Some ofDr. Craigie's earliest memories are of afternoons spent at the hospital with his father, a general surgeon. Inspired by these experiences, Dr. Craigie pursued a career in medicine. Now a highly skilled and accomplished surgeon himself, Dr. Craigie performs approximately 100 breast reconstruction surgeries each year, in addition to many second and third-stage procedures essential to the reconstruction process. His unwavering commitment to his patients drives him to utilize state-of-the-art surgical techniques, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
Before joining The Center for Natural Breast Reconstruction, Dr. Craigie opened a general plastic surgery practice in North Carolina and honed his expertise in micro-vascular breast reconstruction under the guidance of Dr. Robert Allen in New Orleans. He is among the few surgeons who perform these specialized procedures.
A resident of James Island, SC, Dr. Craigie is married with two children. His personal and professional journey reflects his dedication to making a significant difference in the lives of his patients.
Richard M. Kline Jr, M.D.
Dr. Kline's journey began as a plastic surgery resident at LSU, where he trained in microsurgery under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Allen, a pioneer of DIEP, SIEA, and GAP perforator flap breast reconstruction.
After completing his training, Dr. Kline dedicated several years to full-time academic surgical practice, starting at LSU and continuing later at the Medical University of South Carolina. During his tenure there, he performed the first successful DIEP flap in the southeastern United States.
After transitioning to private practice in 2000, Dr. Kline rapidly developed a regional referral center for complex microsurgical reconstruction. Today, his practice is almost exclusively focused on microsurgical breast reconstruction using a patient’s natural tissue.
A Charleston native, Dr. Kline lives near his childhood home and close to his parents. He lives with his wife, a thoracic surgeon whom he met in the operating room, and their two children.

- GAP Flap Reconstruction: The GAP (Gluteal Artery Perforator) flap procedure is another type of microsurgical breast reconstruction that uses a patient's own tissue from the buttocks to create natural-looking breasts.
- PAP Flap Reconstruction: The PAP (Profunda Artery Perforator) flap procedure is a newer form of breast reconstruction that uses tissue from the upper thigh to reconstruct one or both breasts.
- Resentation: This innovative technique allows for restored sensation in reconstructed breasts, improving the overall experience for our patients.
- 3D Nipple Tattooing: Our skilled tattoo artist uses advanced techniques to create realistic nipples for our patients, helping them feel more confident and complete after reconstruction.

'I came to see Dr. Kline after having difficulty with my reconstruction breast surgery. I love it when a doctor does not beat around the bush but says what your options are, the procedure, and the risks. The office staff and nurses are awesome and take the time to assist you and explain things you do not understand. I live about two hours from his office, but due to the fact that I feel so comfortable with the people in the office and have a great deal of confidence in Dr. Kline, I have no issue with the drive.
