Q: Does delayed reconstruction with radiation impact the success of ReSensation? From what I have been hearing in the other videos, I expect after radiation that resensation is not likely at all?
A: Breast reconstruction with natural tissue is very successful after radiation and is considered the best option for a permanent natural result when radiation is needed. The important point is that the natural tissue reconstruction should occur after the radiation not before. Therefore, we say it is delayed from the time of the mastectomy. Resensation occurs when the breast is reconstructed with natural fatty tissue, blood vessels and nerves. As long as these important components are not treated with radiation we expect resensation to occur. Therefore it can be as successful when radiation is needed as it is when no radiation is needed.
