Q: I was diagnosed in 2016 (47-year-old) with breast cancer and did a double mastectomy with expanders. After numerous tries, the expanders were rejected. At one point my implant fell out of my chest and landed in my lap. I've had 16 surgeries since the mastectomy and am now left with 2 1/2 lopsided, hideous "lumps". No implants are left. I can't wear certain shirts yet I can't find a bra. Is there any hope or am I stuck looking like Frankenstein?
A: Hi, What a terrible story! I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this.
The good news is, if you have any extra skin/fat on your tummy or buttocks, then there is a very real chance that we can help you. None of your prior problems with implants affects our ability to reconstruct you with your own tissue.
Is there a time that I could call you and we could discuss your situation in more detail? -Richard M. Kline, Jr., MD
