It's very common for cancer survivors to turn to complementary therapies as part of their healing journey. However, less than half of them disclose their use of these therapies to their doctors. This lack of communication can lead to dangerous interactions with conventional treatments, wasted time and money on ineffective products or practices, and in some cases, abandoning evidence-based medical treatments in favor of unsafe alternatives. Navigating these choices can be overwhelming, adding unnecessary stress during a challenging time.
At The Center for Natural Breast Reconstruction, we are here to empower breast cancer survivors with safe and effective options. As experts in flap-based breast reconstruction in South Carolina, we specialize in advanced surgical procedures that provide optimal outcomes for women seeking to restore their sense of self after breast cancer treatment. Our team offers compassionate care, personalized guidance, and expert solutions to support your healing process.
Don’t hesitate to take the next step in your recovery—schedule an appointment today to learn how we can help.
With the right information and support, navigating life after cancer becomes a little easier. That's why we're proud to partner with Cheryl, a breast cancer survivor turned wellness coach at The After Cancer, who is dedicated to helping others on their healing journey.
Cheryl Lecroy: Turning Pain into Purpose
In 2011, Cheryl Lecroy’s life was forever changed when she received her breast cancer diagnosis. Facing the reality of her diagnosis, Cheryl found herself seeking ways to cope with the mental and emotional toll of treatment.
Her background as a community arts center worker provided a natural outlet: creativity. Surrounded by talented artist friends, Cheryl was encouraged to engage in activities that combined hand-eye coordination and cognitive stimulation to mitigate the effects of “chemo brain.”
During her five-hour chemotherapy sessions, Cheryl began making jewelry. By the end of her six treatments, she had crafted six unique pieces, which she called her “triumph jewels.” For Cheryl, this creative process was transformative—it allowed her to shift from feeling like a passive recipient of treatment to an active participant in her healing journey. These triumph jewels became a symbol of her resilience and strength.
As she continued exploring jewelry fabrication in the years following her treatment, Cheryl’s creative journey awakened something within her. She found immense joy in the playful and experimental nature of design. Her art became deeply personal, often inspired by feminine forms, nature, and her own experiences with breast cancer. This newfound passion not only nurtured her healing but also sparked a desire to help others.
The After Cancer: A Safe Space for Survivors
Today, Cheryl serves as a wellness coach with The After Cancer, an innovative virtual platform designed to help cancer survivors navigate life beyond treatment. Understanding that recovery extends far beyond the physical, this program offers a comprehensive approach to survivorship, providing the tools and resources needed to support long-term health and well-being.
At the core of The After Cancer is its commitment to evidence-based guidance and community-driven support. Survivors have access to a library of expert-backed content covering cancer recovery, lifestyle changes, and strategies for managing side effects. Live group sessions, ranging from yoga and cooking classes to physician-led Q&As, provide both practical education and emotional support. Additionally, a moderated peer community ensures that every survivor has a space where they feel heard, understood, and empowered.
The After Cancer is built on the understanding that healing is not just physical—it’s emotional, mental, and even spiritual. Drawing from her journey, Cheryl guides participants through a holistic approach to recovery that emphasizes creativity, mindfulness, and empowerment.
Cheryl uses her personal experiences to connect with survivors on a deeply human level. Her coaching sessions often incorporate creative activities like journaling, mindfulness exercises, and, of course, art. For Cheryl, art is more than a medium for self-expression; it’s a pathway to rediscovery, helping survivors reclaim their identities and find joy in the present moment.
By focusing on mindfulness, nutrition, and holistic wellness, Cheryl and The After Cancer help survivors reduce anxiety, regain a sense of control, and take proactive steps toward a healthier future. More than just a resource, it’s a space where survivors can connect, learn, and thrive together.
