At The Center for Natural Breast Reconstruction, we want to hear about your breast reconstruction journey! Every Tuesday during the month of October, we’re posting a question on our Facebook and Instagram pages for our followers to answer.   These answers can help women beginning breast reconstruction get advice from those who have already been through this experience. Plus, if you comment on these posts, you have the chance to win a gift box!  There will be a drawing every Tuesday throughout October.     Week 1: What was the most important thing you had on your bedside table at home while recovering from surgery?
  1. Phone
Many women stayed connected with family and friends during recovery using their phones. They were also able to call their surgeon and take notes which helped them remember important information and have an assurance that they were recovering properly.
  1. Book
Instead of watching tv or being on the phone, a good book served as an alternative pastime for several women. It kept them distracted and allowed them to learn or just enjoy a good story.   3: Pillow   Because some movements can be difficult after surgery, a few women used a small pillow to sleep, shift, or get up more comfortably.
  1. Fan with a Remote
One woman loved having a remote for her oscillating fan during recovery. She shifted between hot and cold frequently and was able to adjust her fan without getting up.
  1. Supportive Cards
At her surgeon’s office, one woman picked up cards with encouraging sayings and quotes during her appointments. She put the cards on her bedside table and used them as continuous inspiration, from her initial consultation to her recovery after revision surgery.
  1. Natural Products
Some used natural products like essential oils and skin-calming salves to handle the emotional and physical effects of breast cancer and breast reconstruction recovery.   If you have some advice you’d like to share, like our Facebook page, follow us on Instagram, and leave a comment on our weekly question post!
